Vintage...I'm in Love.
Sunday 09-07-2008 12:46am PT
Anyone knows me, knows that I love vintage style. Anything like late 40's to the 60's. I was scanning You Tube tonight for different vintage styles and came across this makeup artist with that too cute video. If you see any good vintage thangs including bridesmaid dresses...let a girl know.

Gucci Fall Looks...and the knockoffs we can afford.
Friday 09-05-2008 10:25am PT

It seems like only yesterday, I saw the Gucci Fall 2008/2009 runway collection online. It was a very exciting collection to see as well - a boho-chic theme filled with interesting prints and textures - Gucci is setting the trends for the upcoming season.

After the premiere of the collection over the summer, celebrities couldn’t wait to get their hands into it. Stars like Rihanna, Cassie, Amerie, and Vanessa Simmons have already been seen rocking the hottest clothing and accessories from the runways. I decided to come up with similar looks inspired by the show…

A. Sleeveless Satin Paisley Dress ($17.80)
Gucci set the trend of paisley prints off this Fall & Winter season - featuring paisley printed blouses and long gowns. Get your print on with this cheap blouse I found online.

B. Textured Chain Bracelet ($4.80)
Yet another steal I found online. The Gucci runway show was filled with chain & charmed bracelets and necklaces.

C. a-c. Regular Rise Skinny Jean ($29.90) ; Vintage Tassel Belt ($48 ) ; Advertised Patent Belt with Pyramid Studs ($29)
Alot of dark colored pants were featured in the Gucci show, so I found these cheap jeans. To accessorize it, I also found a vintage belt with tassels on ebay and a studded belt online to set of the look.

D. Belted velvet jacket ($69)
Among the many fabrics and textures in the show - Velvet was also popular. This purple Velvet blazer adds a funky flavor to the boho chic look…

E. Leather Studded crossbody bag ($125)
This leather studded bag is a great alternative for those who don’t have the cash to fund out for the over $1000 bags from Gucci’s Fall collection. This bag also helps to complete the look…

F. Jeffrey Campbell Crank Boot ($198)
This Jeffery Campbell boot is almost a match to the $1250 Gucci devendra boot that the model in the photo is wearing. Also serves for a great alternative…

A. Sheer Burnout Stripe Blouse ($22.80) & Polished Charm Necklace ($4.80)
Start off the outfit with a loose & light white top and add a vintage-like chain necklace for some flair.

B. Popper Side Skinny Trouser (£40.00 or $60.00)
These great black trousers with gold hardware on the sides are similar to some of the pants featured on the runway show.

C. The Row Reversible Fur Jacket ($3750)
This Fur jacket from The Row makes the look of this outfit - if you rather find a cheaper faux fur try the Juicy Couture faux Fur bomber ($398).

D. CHAIN BELT WITH HORSE RING BUCKLE ($975)
While putting this outfit together, I actually accidentally included this belt from Gucci! As you can see the accessories, while they are hot are very expensive. Luckily I have another alternative - Bebe Chain & Leather Fringe belt ($34).

E. Juicy Couture ‘The Beau’ Boyfriend Watch ($295)
Lots of gold jewelry and watches were included in the show - this Juicy Couture was found just in time to complete this look.

F. Gucci Duchessa bag ($1112)
Now this Gucci - I did mean to include. Why not included it in a Gucci-inspired outfit? This bag also happens to be 20% for those who are looking for some Gucci accessories…

G. Bebe Madeline Tasseled boot ($298)
Yet another shoe strikingly similar to one wore in the Gucci show. The model wore Gucci’s ‘devendra’ flat boot as well as Amerie

A. Appliqued Leather Jacket by Malandrino ($2450)
Starting off this look is this cool leather jacket by Catherine Malandrino. The floral print on the jacket adds that boho theme to this look. For something a bit cheaper, try this Coated Knit & Patent Leather Jacket or shop the actual photoed Gucci biker jacket priced at $5395.

B. Gucci babouska handbag ($1950)
Another actual Gucci handbag from the Fall 2008 collection I threw in for fun. The bag features animated patchwork and brings a youthful appeal to the collection.

C. Steve Madden Grinnd Black Suede Boot ($199.95)
This Steve Madden boot isn’t a replica of the Gucci boots featured in the show, but definitely serves as a cheaper pick. The stud details reminds you of the footwear of the collection.

D. Yaya Aflalo Angel Dress ($115) ; Vintage chain belt ($7.99) ; Silk paisley scarf ($59)
This dress further brings the boho theme like the model rocked on the runway. I found a great vintage belt via ebay and paisley scarf to accentuate the look.

E. TOPSHOP OPAQUE BLACK TIGHTS (£5.00 OR $15.00)
Completing the look are black tights - a big must have for the upcoming season.

Beyonce a Blond

Ciara poses nude for the October 2008 issue of Vibe magazine. The issue not only includes a nude cover, but a nude spread inside as well…looks like the singer is baring all with the upcoming album she has in store for us.

A Message for all women

THIS IS MOVING. HOW QUICKLY WE FORGET.....IF ....WE EVER KNEW......

WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920
that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed
nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking
for the vote.

(Lucy Burns)

And by the end of the night, they were barely alive.
Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing
went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of
'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'
They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above
her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping
for air.

(Dora Lewis)

They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her
head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate,
Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack.
Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging,
beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.
.
For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their
food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.

(Alice Paul)

When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks
until word was smuggled out to the press.

So, refresh my memory. Some women won't vote this year because-

-why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work?
Our vote doesn't matter? It's raining?

All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the
actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote.
Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege.
Sometimes it was inconvenient.

Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know.

We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so
hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party - remember to vote.

History is being made.

New Kids New album getting decent reviews...
Tuesday 09-02-2008 11:26am PT

Unbelievable NY NEWSDAY &  LA TIMES  reviews- which I am very suprized about. There album The Block dropped today and it's not my favorite. Let's just say I was much more obsessed when I was 10 :)But these reviews are actually very suprizing.

NY NEWSDAY

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

"The Block"

THE GRADE: B

BOTTOM LINE: The year's most potent reunion and maybe its biggest surprise

Certain expectations come with reunion albums, especially ones where the group has been apart longer than they were together.

But New Kids on the Block's "The Block" (Interscope) confounds them all. Not only does the Boston quintet's first new album in 14 years surpass the usual cobbled-together-so-we-can-tour reunion record, it is actually the best album of their multiplatinum career.

Unlike their most successful albums, including "Hangin' Tough" from 20 years ago, "The Block" isn't an all-Starr - impresario Maurice Starr - affair but a collection of some of the best collaborations with some of today's hottest songwriters.

In fact, the amiable first single, "Summertime," is a bit of a red herring. The rest of "The Block" is far from safe or laid-back. There are bold dance numbers, such as "Grown Man," featuring the Pussycat Dolls and Teddy Riley, that wrap up elements of Aretha soul, boy-band harmonies and today's R&B in a slick package. There are such songs as the pretty collaboration with Ne-Yo, "Single," which show off the New Kids' still-strong vocals, especially from Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight. And there's a bona fide smash-in-waiting with "Put It on My Tab," a T-Pain-styled club song helmed by Akon that is sure to make even the staunchest haters do a double-take.

"The Block" may not break any ground musically, but it's actually strong enough to make people reconsider the New Kids' entire career and wonder what will come next.

LA TIMES

New Kids on the Block

"The Block"

Interscope

**** (4 stars)

On their first album since 1994, the thirtysomething members of New Kids on the Block make remarkably little attempt to conceal their ages. There's one song called "Grown Man," for example, and there's another in which the hook goes, "I'm a big boy / You're a big girl now."

"The Block" even ends with a bit of in-the-studio chatter between Donnie Wahlberg and one of his children -- not the most efficient way of distracting us from the fact that these backstreet boys are well on their way to becoming middle-aged men. (On the other hand, the album does include a track called "Sexify My Love," which is certainly a mistake nobody over the age of 16 should make.)

Perhaps the surest sign of the New Kids' maturity here is the surprising strength of most of the material. They've been around long enough to know what a hit sounds like, and they're wise enough to know that they don't have forever to rebuild a following. So "The Block" comes loaded with sure-thing collaborations with radio-pop rainmakers such as Timbaland, Akon, Ne-Yo and Polow da Don, each of whom treat the project with respect, not condescension.

The best cuts exude an understated confidence the old New Kids never had: In "Click Click Click" they layer sleek blue-eyed soul vocals over a hushed computer-music groove, while "Twisted," the Timbaland track, sets angelic harmonies against a menacing synth riff. "Grown Man," produced by new jack swing maestro Teddy Riley, even makes clever use of a sample of "Chain of Fools."

Considering Top 40's predilection for unlined young faces, "The Block's" unexpected quality is no guarantee of a commercial rebirth for NKOTB, who play the Staples Center on Oct. 8. Believe it or not, though, they've got the right stuff.
